Tex I'm sure has lot's of good stories to tell about our latest little blip. The good thing is its over.
I noticed we have a lot of friends over at Liberty Forum. Todd posted an OD thread that got over 800 views.

Some interesting characters over at Liberty Forum:wacko:. Makes me glad we've got our own forum. ;)

BTW, I'm interested in knowing the timing of the forum return. It just came back up for me an hour ago, but for some it may have returned before from he posts. It's curious to me. I wonder if my browser (non-Java enabled Opera) had something to do with it.

What the hell was all that about? We went from Okie updates on Tex's Vietnamese cyberflu to some kind of brain-dead stream of consciousness signifying....what, exactly?
Is that what Edana means by 'chatty'? Incoherence?

I think you all need to extend him a formal invitation. I think he'd be a great addition to our forum.

Newswatcher generates the longest threads, yet he has a negative rating? I dont understand the rating system at LF. Is it only 2 ratings that have the right to rate other posts? Is it articles that are rated or comments or both?

I'm convinced that Newswatcher is a troll composed of multiple people. 41600 posts since 9/02 is 2440+ posts a month.

Read a few more of his threads, you'll understand. It's difficult to find any comment of his that's generates an attaboy. I think he's a severe alcoholic, among other things.
I don't understand the rating system at LF. Is it only 2 ratings that have the right to rate other posts? Is it articles that are rated or comments or both?
Only comments are rated. The system hs some subtleties about who gets points etc - I think short term posters or those in the bottom 20 percent are excluded, some other things like that. Other than that you get 5 points every three days, to use on any comments except those on threads you've posted to.
Somehow its logic derives from John Deere's anarcho-capitalist philosophy with his "no bannings" goal - i.e. the board polices themselves.

That thread is still going. The title doesn't matter, it's all mindless "chat". What zhids like DaisyFork posting porn and threats couldn't do -- silence all the meaningfull discussion -- "chatters" have finally accomplished.

The high traffic at LF justifies the noise. Play to the lurkers, not to the choir.
The zhid trolls, nuisance chatters (weikel, heretic) and Randite/neo-con bores (OWK, DownSouth[FreedomWins]) are easily routed around.

That's one way to look at it. You are definitely doing a great job there.
Tex, can you give an account of what happened in more detail, once the dust settles? How much are the expenses now?

I told MA a long time ago that they should work on installing an official chat room for LF. Hopefully they'll do this for LFv.2, because a lot of people (including me) are there to kill time talking to people. Right now, probably over 70% of the posts there would be better in a chat room. Until/unless they do that, you have to just filter.
And no, NW is not composed of multiple people. He's the Real Deal (scary, no?). I think many of you will get a kick out of this.

Hey, Tex -
In the words of the guy on A Mighty Wind, "wha happen'?"
I swear OD crashed (for me) just as I was trying to post a big chunk of text to something. Did I kill OD? Or am I like the little boy in New York City who thought that his knocking his stick against the fence cause the blackout?

Enjoy the time while you still have it. I don't have that luxury anymore, and I've already killed my TV. Looking back, though, I wish I'd done something else with my time.

Hey Edana, this is NewsWatcher.
I am glad you set the dudes and dudettes here straight about how I am a real person, not multiple posters.

I am not an extreme alcoholic.
I have not drank in about 2 weeks, but the problem is that alcohol elicits a very hostile reaction from me for two reasons.
I am an ethnic Jew / Choctaw Indian mixture man.
I was born unable to sweat, and well alcohol is very caloric and sugary.
It sends my body temp into orbit and it takes hours for it to subside.

Is that correct?

Walter
That's basically correct Walter, although the dates seem to be roughly the day before yesterday and yesterday. Here's the message from Tex I saw
New server completely crashed.
It's back up now, but we lost all of March 8th's posts and most of March 7ths.
[Staggering....]
What's weird is that a thread from Tex detailing the forum problems, in this section (News and Announcements) which appeared after the forum reopened, seems to have also disappeared since yesterday. The problems don't seem resolved yet. We'll have to wait for another update from Tex.
My guess might be that he might have found this new hosting company unsatisfactory and is looking for another. Just a possibility though.

I have had much difficulty accessing and moving around OD since it came back up a couple of weeks ago. Long delays between pages. Hope this helps.

Having some difficulty getting this posted....Yes, we are on a new server because the prior one went down unexpectedly. Evidently the IP address has to proliferate and the announcement I made yesterday was on the old server. Go figure.
While the good news is that we are back up, the bad news is that we did lose all postings from March 8th and most of March 7th.
Based on our current levels of activity, we continue to have server resource problems and the limitations of shared-hosting is really starting to show. Nevertheless, we continue to press on.
Thanks for all of your patience.

When we don't let those who we disagree with to talk then we don't have freedom of speech.
To me that is like boys talking among themselves and girls doing the same. We must have inter reaction among the two sexes in order to have life...... the same way that we must allowed those who we disagree with to express themselves in order to learn more about life.
As you all know I am anti Zionist and I love it when they talk and raise hell with me because that way I can show them why they are wrong, according to Ponce that is.
As long as no one uses words like "mother fuer" and "son of a bich" and so on, I think that all should be allowed on this board. But of course it is the Jewish way to talk that way when they disagree with you.

Looking back on this thread, which detailed a recent problem with our ISP, I am reminded that an even more recent problem with the forum never even appeared on the radar screen. Never mind.
My question was though, are our forum archives being maintained over an extended period of time? I am not sure really how long our old posts stay up. It seems to me every time we change ISP's a months of old threads drop through the woodwork.
Now this is OK if this forum was designed as a chat forum. But since we discuss matters somewhat differently, I think its important that old posts be preserved. I think they serve a very valuable archival function of our movement.
Regarding the archival function, I think its important that the search function work properly. Otherwise the forum is almost the same as disappeared, since its not accessible. Anyone try the search function lately? It retreives only very recent threads. The others have dropped through the memory hole. Try any topical search with a highly, constantly relevent topic, like "Buchanan", "Francis", "Linder", or "MacDonald" . You will find only recent posts.
In fact I've observed that to alleviate these problems we've started to add "sticky" threads on posts of high interest. Not to complain, but is the forum moving to a point where the "sticky" threads are to be the only permanent last threads, that is safely stored and easily accessed?
Recently it appears every week I'm looking for an old thread. I realize I can't find them anymore. It appears those of us with high interests in particular threds may need to start setting up our own archival system. If this is the way we're going I think we should know.
Anyway thanks for this and all the other technical questions you answer Tex. Just curious if I'm the only one who uses the forum this way. If so, maybe I'm asking too much.

True. I was just mentioning to another regular that the "Jewish Villains in Film/TV" thread seems to have gotten sucked into the void.
On the other hand, you have to remember to use the drop-down menu as well that determines the length of a search, from "last 30 days" all the way back to "from the beginning".
(But a lotta threads are gone even if you go back that far...)

I hope Tex has all the databases in a safe place, so that someday if we get some money we might be able to restore all this material. I know with all the switching its quite a task, especially with talk about another one possibly coming up. (And don't ask me where the threat on that went.)

Don't we all know with all this about "Trisk" et. al. and saying you've got a "fiduciary duty" to check on this you don't have more than enough to occupy you. We all hope our old threads stay accessible for years to come, but we realize we can't automatically have everything we like.

Basically, we've just gotten too busy and big for our britches and have to change servers again. Apologies in advance, but we'll probably have some more down time over the next day or so as the domain server change filters throughout the web.
Ultimately we're going to be ok, but please be patient as the site may act a little strange over the next 24 hours.

I don't know if the site has been in and out for any of you today as it has for me, but later on this evening I expect everything to be completely transferred over to the new server and back to normal, working order.
Again, I appreciate your patience as all this gets sorted out. We're going to be in good shape after tonight (knock on wood...).

Alright. With minimal down time last night we are back up and running strong. The entire database has been reindexed, so search is fully functional as well as the archive feature.
Thanks to everyone for their patience. I believe we are in good shape now. Special thanks to Mr. Don Black of Stormfront for freely offered technical assistance and expertise, without which this transition wouldn't have been anywhere near as smooth as it was.
