MOSCOW - An explosion reportedly caused by a suicide bomber ripped through a subway car in Moscow during rush hour Friday morning, killing at least 30 people in what authorities were investigating as an act of terrorism.
A severe fire broke out in the underground train, sending clouds of smoke through the tunnel, and passengers were being evacuated from Avtozavodskaya station, about 300 yards from the site of the explosion, ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov said.
About 30 people were killed after an explosion in the second wagon of the train as it traveled northwest on one of Moscow's deepest metro lines to the Paveletskaya station.
Authorities are investigating the explosion as an act of terrorism, said Kirill Mazurin, spokesman for the Moscow police. He said the death toll could be as high as 30. The Interfax news agency, citing police sources, reported that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
The Emergency Situations Ministry said more than 30 people were wounded, although Russian news reports put the number of injured as high as 150.
Ambulances crowded the street outside the metro station entrance and paramedics, carrying stretchers or equipment in backpacks, rushed down the steps.
Bystanders stood in snow watching emergency workers treat the wounded outside the station. In one ambulance, medics bandaged the hand of a woman whose face was smeared with blood. In another, a boy appeared uninjured but his face was blackened with soot.
Police immediately barricaded the two metro stations and stopped all traffic between the stations. Dozens of buses were rerouted to deal with the evacuated passengers, clogging up the already busy streets of the Russian capital.
Russian President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites) was informed.
More than 700 people had been evacuated, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported, quoting metro staff. Most Russians are dependent on public transportation, and the spacious train wagons are usually packed tight during rush hour traffic.
The Interfax and ITAR-Tass news agencies said the train wagon was badly damaged.
The Russian capital has been on alert for terrorist attacks following a series of suicide bombings that officials have blamed on Chechen rebels.
In December, a female suicide bomber blew herself up outside the National Hotel across from Moscow's Red Square, killing at least five others. Two suicide bombers blew themselves up at a Moscow rock concert in July, killing themselves and 14 other people. That was followed five days later by an aborted suicide bomb attack at a central Moscow restaurant that killed the sapper trying to defuse the bomb. The suspected attacker was arrested and is awaiting trial.
In August 2000, a bomb exploded at a crowded pedestrian underpass filled with kiosks at Pushkin Square, a popular meeting place located near a metro line. The attack was initially blamed on Chechen rebels, but some police later said that a turf battle between rival businessmen or criminal gangs could have been the motive.

Putin has put the blame on Chechen Islamics. The most likely culprits. But the Russians are slow. They cannot confirm the direct cause of the explosion. A suicide bomber (female) or a planted device?
No doubt Putin knows.
British Security say it is only a matter of time when they are hit by the Arabs. It can only be expected since British politicians continue to allow them free access to their country in the name of liberalism.
When it occurs the current political pseudo-intellectuals will be removed. But they have a liberal arrogance that is stunning in its stupidity.

I really don't know what the Russians can do about the Chechen threat.
The Russians even tried giving them what they wanted - independence - in 1996 when General Lebed (RIP) signed a peace treaty with them granting them de facto independence. But from that time on, Chechnya decended into the abyss. Slavery was rampant, including the kidnapping of Russian citizens who were openly bought and sold. Kidnapping of Russian children and extortion were rampant. The Russian news showed "ransom" videos of these Russian kidnap victims being tortured and mutilated (to their credit, they showed those sparingly so as not to result in the mass slaughter of innocent Chechens living in Russia). Chechnya was a training ground for international Islamic terrorism, including Al Qaeda, and was also a center of the narcotics trade. Women were vieled, babaric sharia law was instituted.
And then to the astonishment of the world independent Chechnya in August of 2000 FREEKING ATTACKED RUSSIA. The Chechen army invaded the neighboring Russian Federation republic of Dagestan, in an impudent bid to incite popular rebellion in Dagestan and to create a water border on the Caspian with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Russia had no choice but to respond with force, and Putin (unlike the Jew controlled Yeltsin) turned the Russian Army loose and kicked the living pi$$ out of the Chechens in short order. The Russian Army freed many Russians held in captivity, and may God bless them, killed thousands of Islamic barbarians.
I really have nothing against them as individuals, and in today's Russian Federation one may practice Islam privately without coercion. They can keep their language and culture. They can quietly earn a living. But that's not the way it is with them. There's no dealing with a people like that.
The Chechens are, IMHO, just one of those unfortunate cultures that cannot be made to enter into civilized discourse. The fact that they had their independence and blew it - proving beyond doubt to the whole world just what a curse an independent Chechnya would be - places their right to exist as a people in the dock.
And now they've chosen the path of terror. Much more of this, and Russia will be morally justified to apply very severe measures indeed.

Contrary to the reports on the West how darkies are opressed in Moscow, when I frequent Russian-language forums or blogs I get the impression that "churkas" can get away almost with anything in Moscow. Russians have largely lost their ethnic solidarity and toughness, similarly to the white males in the West. Not to say that churkas are tough: but they have the backing of their packs, like to be in packs, and are used to encountering meek response to their exploits.
Those scaaary skinheads who are given so much coverage in the West, is a very insignificant phenomenon, compared to the predation "churkas" carry out daily in Moscow. The usual strategy of the mass media to diminish or never mention the reasons for such phenomena as skinheads, and never reporting (or exaggerating) the magnitude is at work.
