During Bush's State of the Union Address(sic), Bush said "Key provisions of the Patriot Act are set to expire next year. The terrorist threat will not expire on that schedule.
In reply to that line, the Republicans applauded and cheered.
As usual, Bush's speech was full of lies. Bush said, "Since we last met in this chamber, combat forces of the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Poland, and other countries enforced the demands of the United Nations, ended the rule of Saddam Hussein and the people of Iraq are free." Which UN resolution demanded that Saddam be overthrown. And, essentually this was all the US's doing with a little role from Britian.
Bush said "I oppose amnesty, because it would encourage further illegal immigration, and unfairly reward those who break our laws. My temporary worker program will preserve the citizenship path for those who respect the law, while bringing millions of hardworking men and women out from the shadows of American life." Yet, his worker program is nothing less than amnesty. It even further de facto legalizes the hiring of illegal aliens.

A shining example of Texas Anarch's point regarding the deliberate effort to change previously understood definitions of specific words. You see, 'amnesty' really doesn't mean what we thought it meant. Orwellian, really.

It was my understanding that it was the DemocRats that applauded right after Bush mentioned the expiration date of the diabolical and disgusting Patriot Act and then the Repuglicans applauded after Booosh said "terrorist threat will not expire......"
I didn't watch the SOTU. The lies are too sickening and Boooosh is truly a repulsive individual. He looks like Alfred E. Newman. :nerd:

That is correct. The Democrats applauded when Bush warned about the end of the Patriot Act. After a pause, Bush continued. That made the Republican applause even worse because becaue the warning that terrorism will continue sounded even more like an independent thought.
Bush should have said something like "The terrorist threat won't expire, so we must not let the Patriot Act expire..." [now, Republicans can applaud].
As it was, Republicans showed their lust for war.
