Hatred and rage are the only appropriate reactions here as far as I'm concerned. I couldn't watch this hearing on CSPAN 2 yesterday because one glance at the panel told me where it was going, but I did read a thread about it on FreeRepublic this morning and there are no words to describe the way I felt after watching that pack of jew jackals over there go after anyone who dared to take the side of the men on the USS Liberty.

By Matthew Lee in Washington 13jan04 A STATE Department conference has failed to quell the raging controversy over Israel's attack on a US spy ship during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, as an expert panel was unable to agree whether the strike was intentional.
All but one of four panelists said they either accepted or tended to accept Israel's stated explanation ââ¬â that the attack on the USS Liberty had been a case of tragic misidentification and an accident.
A senior State Department official said Washington had not changed its initial, nearly 35-year-old assessment that the attack was the result of "gross negligence" on the part of the Israeli military, but not an intentionally hostile act against the United States.
But survivors and families of victims of the incident, many of whom believe Israel deliberately attacked the ship, angrily charged the State Department with helping cover up Israel's role.
Controversy has raged for years over the June 8, 1967, attack on the Liberty, a US signals intelligence ship, in international waters off the Sinai Peninsula. Israeli jets and torpedo boats struck the ship, killing 34 US sailors and wounding 171.
Israel maintains that its forces mistook the Liberty for an Egyptian warship, but many dispute the Israeli account and demand a new investigation of the sinking.
The senior State Department official said the panel, part of a two-day conference on the 1967 war, had not intended to re-evaluate long-standing US acceptance of the Israeli explanation.
"In many respects, I think this is kind of a classic binational case of Murphy's Law: everything that could possibly go wrong on either side did," the official said after the panel adjourned.
The official said nothing presented in new documents released today as part of the US diplomatic history of the 1967 war had changed the evaluation of Israel's explanation at the time.
"The unprovoked attack on the Liberty constitutes a flagrant act of gross negligence for which the Israeli government should be held completely responsible," the official quoted the US conclusion as saying.
However, that official and others, all of whom participated in the conference, admitted it was unlikely the panel had closed the matter or stemmed any of the controversy surrounding the case.
"I don't know if we settled anything, but I think perhaps we've shed a little light on different aspects of this question," Marc Susser, the State Department historian, told the conference.
One leading sceptic of the Israeli explanation is James Bamford, the author of several books on US intelligence.
Bamford, who repeated his call for a new investigation into the incident, argues that the Israelis intentionally sank the Liberty to cover up a massacre of Egyptian prisoners of war on the Sinai.
Then US president Lyndon Johnson's administration hid the facts to avoid harming ties with Israel, Bramford claims.
Bramford urged in a 2001 book that intelligence data from a US spy plane in the area be released to shed light on the attack.
David Hatch, technical director for the Centre for Cryptologic History, said at least some of those intercepts, released by the ultra-secret National Security Agency last year, indicated that the Israelis had not deliberately targeted a US vessel.
"While falling short of proof, the intercepts to me suggest strongly that the Israeli attackers did not know they were aiming deadly fire at a vessel belonging to the United States," Hatch told the panel.
The senior State Department official agreed with that analysis, although he allowed that there were still "some documents that could not be declassified" for the conference.
The conference also heard from Michael Oren, an Israeli historian, and Jay Cristol, a federal judge, both of whom have published investigations into the incident that have supported the Israeli explanation.
The panelists and their conclusions clearly irritated some in the audience, who appeared to believe that the United States was letting Israel ââ¬â which paid $US12 million ($15.49 million) in compensation afterwards ââ¬â get away with murder.
"There have been so many half-truths and misstatements made up here today," Liberty survivor Joseph Lentini said angrily before being cut-off by Susser.
"Let's hear from another survivor, one more survivor, two Israelis and one survivor," protested an unidentified man when Susser tried to end the question and answer period. "One more survivor has the right to talk."

:dung: !!
The attack went on for something like 45 minutes with a huge American flag waving in the breeze the entire time. In order for the Israeli pilots to be unaware of whom they were attacking, they would've had to be blind!
The senior State Department official agreed with that analysis, although he allowed that there were still "some documents that could not be declassified" for the conference.
Yes -- the documents that prove Israel attacked deliberately!
Every single survivor is certain that the attack was no accident, and the events as they describe them make it clear that the "mistaken identity" claim is impossible.
By the way, here's an outstanding website that's run by Liberty survivors:

Will those men see justice in their lifetimes?

Jan. 9, 2004 "Freeper" and dittohead types would probably accuse the writer below of being a "supporter of terrorism" and an "antisemite" for writing what he did below. They would probably also accuse him of being weak on "national defense" and trying to undermine support for our noble ally, Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East.
Betrayal behind Israeli attack on U.S. ship By ADM. THOMAS MOORER
After State Department officials and historians assembled in Washington, D.C., last week to discuss the 1967 war in the Middle East, I am compelled to speak out about one of U.S. history's most shocking cover-ups.
On June 8, 1967, Israel attacked our proud naval ship -- the USS Liberty -- killing 34 American servicemen and wounding 172. Those men were then betrayed and left to die by our own government.
U.S. military rescue aircraft were recalled, not once, but twice, through direct intervention by the Johnson administration. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's cancellation of the Navy's attempt to rescue the Liberty, which I personally confirmed from the commanders of the aircraft carriers America and Saratoga, was the most disgraceful act I witnessed in my entire military career.
To add insult to injury, Congress, to this day, has failed to hold formal hearings on Israel's attack on this American ship. No official investigation of Israel's attack has ever permitted the testimony of the surviving crew members.
A 1967 investigation by the Navy, upon which all other reports are based, has now been fully discredited as a cover-up by its senior attorney. Capt. Ward Boston, in a sworn affidavit, recently revealed that the court was ordered by the White House to cover up the incident and find that Israel's attack was "a case of mistaken identity."
Some distinguished colleagues and I formed an independent commission to investigate the attack on the USS Liberty. After an exhaustive review of previous reports, naval and other military records, including eyewitness testimony from survivors, we recently presented our findings on Capitol Hill. They include:
÷ Israeli reconnaissance aircraft closely studied the Liberty during an eight-hour period prior to the attack, one flying within 200 feet of the ship. Weather reports confirm the day was clear with unlimited visibility. The Liberty was a clearly marked American ship in international waters, flying an American flag and carrying large U.S. Navy hull letters and numbers on its bow.
Despite claims by Israeli intelligence that they confused the Liberty with a small Egyptian transport, the Liberty was conspicuously different from any vessel in the Egyptian navy. It was the most sophisticated intelligence ship in the world in 1967. With its massive radio antennae, including a large satellite dish, it looked like a large lobster and was one of the most easily identifiable ships afloat.
÷ Israel attempted to prevent the Liberty's radio operators from sending a call for help by jamming American emergency radio channels.
÷ Israeli torpedo boats machine-gunned lifeboats at close range that had been lowered to rescue the most seriously wounded.
As a result, our commission concluded that:
÷ There is compelling evidence that Israel's attack was a deliberate attempt to destroy an American ship and kill her entire crew.
÷ In attacking the USS Liberty, Israel committed acts of murder against U.S. servicemen and an act of war against the United States
÷ The White House knowingly covered up the facts of this attack from the American people.
÷ The truth continues to be concealed to the present day in what can only be termed a national disgrace.
What was Israel's motive in launching this attack? Congress must address this question with full cooperation from the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency and the military intelligence services.
The men of the USS Liberty represented the United States. They were attacked for two hours, causing 70 percent of American casualties, and the eventual loss of our best intelligence ship.
These sailors and Marines were entitled to our best defense. We gave them no defense.
Did our government put Israel's interests ahead of our own? If so, why? Does our government continue to subordinate American interests to Israeli interests? These are important questions that should be investigated by an independent, fully empowered commission of the American government.
The American people deserve to know the truth about this attack. We must finally shed some light on one of the blackest pages in American naval history. It is a duty we owe not only to the brave men of the USS Liberty, but to every man and woman who is asked to wear the uniform of the United States.

This is a bunch of crap that the Jew fawners always bring up, figuring that the average citizen will overlook the fact that it was the US. taxpayer who paid losses the families via foreign aid. The U.S. govt. could have avoided the haggling with the Jews if they had simply made out the checks itself instead of allowing Israel to go through the facade (and drawing interest on the money as well) of paying damages. It took years to settle this aspect. On the other hand when one of Hussein's aircraft fired an antishipping missile (from over the horizon at that) and hit the U.S.S. Stark back in 1986, he didn't waste anytime paying for the losses.

$12 million should pay to replace some of the antennas on a modern Navy ship. Looks like the religious fanatics bought their way out of this one.

"In many respects, I think this is kind of a classic binational case of Murphy's Law:"
Actually, we might be dealing here with Shecky's Law, not Murphy's.
But I wonder. How would attacking the Liberty cover up an Egyptian massacre? Also, why in Moses' name would the Jews fire on an American ship, even in the 60s? Weren't we funding them back then, too?

Before total lock down comes, get all this on a C.D. www.ussliberty.org They started the war, but NO matter the reason, or THEIR reason's, Johnson, who knew WHY JFK was bumped off, is guilty of high crimes for his covering this up. I was on active duty when the 1973 red alert was underway, none U.S. knew of this June 8, 1967 crime. This is the truth we face today.. They want an end to the the first and second amendment's and why do you think that since 1974 Hmoongs, and Viet Nam mongols are still being taken here, the Hmoogs are another division for our hate rulers against U.S. An African in Washington state, an illegal alien murdered what 12 whites as a sniper? How about on Whidbey Island WA. another 27 year old Jamican Congoid did in a whole white family in cold blood, and that family of NPR cultist's were very p.c. and helped him knowing he was illegally here... Millions of African's, Jamaican's and Haitians are here now. How many whites know what the Haitions did to the French two hurdred years ago? They murdered every white who did not escape on a boat, 40,000 including children.

Hugh,
Read Ennes' book. He believes that the Liberty was attacked was so that it wouldn't uncover the Israeli attack on the Golan Heights. As for the money angle, well, the "scorpion and the frog" comes to mind. It wouldn't be the first time Jews did something like this and it won't be the last.
