Woman raped; police don't know if there's a connection to North Miami-Dade serial rapist BY LUISA YANEZ lyanez@herald.com
Miami-Dade police said Monday they are investigating the abduction and rape of a woman who was taken at gunpoint from a Miami street Sunday night, then driven to Opa-locka, where she was attacked.
It's too early to tell whether the woman is the latest victim of the North Miami-Dade serial rapist, who has targeted women in the north end of the county for more than a year, said Det. Robert Williams, a Miami-Dade police spokesman.
''We're checking to see if there is any connection between this one and the other attacks,'' Williams said. DNA tests will be conducted.
The North Miami-Dade rapist has been linked by DNA to at least six sexual assaults and as many as eight other attacks.
In Sunday's attack, police said the victim was abducted at around 10:50 p.m. from Northwest 79th Street and Second Avenue and driven to Opa-locka by a man between 20 and 30 years old, driving a burgundy Chevy van.
Her attacker took her to an unknown location, raped her, then released her, police said.
As in the serial rapist cases, the attacker and victim in Sunday's case were both black.
