THANK YOU WILD BILL..i appreciate every one of these.. I cannot figure out WHY i am so drawn to the orthodox church.. (especially when my evangelical friends tell me that i am going you know where for even considering it.)

I just cannot deal with the seeming hollowness or/and brittleness ofmany of the non-denoms or/and classical protestants..yes the classical protestant does appear deeper and more substantive than the modern non-denoms with their worldliness..(maybe i am just some bizzare missing link kinda throw back to a diferent era).

And would you like to talk about some of the stuff that is going out over the airwaves as "christianity" today?SCARY STUFF..and the way they keep you from saying anything is to tell you that "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit" is the one sin not forgiven..(meaning they think they are filled witrh the Holy Spirit, and if you dare say they are not..you are blaspheming).

I have had the sense since i was a young child that we are living in the last days..(i could be wrong) But looking at the world at large it is hard to think otherwise.

Yes, to Heaven!

The best thing I would recommend would be find a parish near you and attend a Liturgy. Maybe even attend several parishes if that's practical. I can tell you that many people experience a bit of "culture shock" the first time, but don't let that put you off.

Also its not like in many other denominations where you answer an alter call, say you accept Christ, and you're immediately a member of the church. In Orthodoxy, a new person is first considered an "inquirer". That's someone who is merely interested, comes to the Liturgy, but isn't really expected to participate. They can sit and watch or participate as they choose.

Then if you decide its for you, then you would let the Priest know your intentions and he will usually have a informal meeting where you could ask any questions and get to know the Priest. If you decide you want to join, then you would become a "Chatecumen." As a Chatacumen, you would be expected to participate in the Liturgy and spend time reading and learning about Orthodoxy, but you would not take Communion. That's only for full members.

At some point, typically, the Priest will approach you about formally joining the Church. You would then be baptized and Chrismated. Usually, if one has already had a baptism in another church in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, then that will be recognized and the Priest would just Chrismate you. This consists of a ritual exorcism, taking an oath renouncing any and all teachings contrary to the Orthodox Church. Then you would be anointed with a special oil. In my case, this all took about an hour.

This whole process can take anywhere from a couple of months to as long as two years in some unusual cases. Maybe this seems like a long process, but I think its all to make sure you are sincere and have plenty of time to make sure and to ask whatever questions you might have. There's no hard sell involved like in some other churches.

I would like to do that...but i cannot start the process right now. I need to be settled to get a process that would take several moneths underway. Right now, i am not sure where i am going to be living. (thanks in large part to Bush's "booming" recovery, neither my fiance nor myself can find a decent paying job)

I would like to start the process, and the sooner the better, but i have moved so often within the last three years..if i start the process, and then have to move..(?) I would like to get questions answered..and i know i need to get Baptized ASAP..
