In the 12-plus years since the Soviet collapse, many Russians have become disillusioned with the capitalist economic system. That is why, the sociologist Leonty Byzov said, support now appears to be growing for a "certain universal national-socialist model," or some form of state capitalism "with a strong [nationalist] ideology and strong state that will guarantee social justice."

A vision problem is keeping me from my usual web use. I try, and fail, to dial in, process my e-mail, scan VNN and a few sites, and get off. However, this post requires me to at least comment.
Russia, and the Western parts of the disolved Soviet Union, does seem to be getting lovelier and lovelier every day.
I have a friend form the Ukraine. He, through job, child, wife, is becoming more and more stuck here. He wants to return, but thinks he will probably stay. I told him that when I move to Eastern Europe, and within a few years I believe most of the white parts of what was the Soviet Union will be Eastern Europe, I will consider it my duty, to visit his parents and tell them that their son has a good life in the USA and loves them. He does not enjoy hearing this.
