A website ( www.theopenforum.com ) in development that takes a look at the issue of immigration into Ireland. Both sides of the argument are represented.

It takes the view that immigration and multiculturalism are not always for the good.

Truth be told, Ed, I have an Irish passport, along with my American one. One of my parents is directly from the auld sod - the other is your typical decendant of the Irish who fled to the US in the early part of the 20th Century, when America was still America. (Although one of my grandparents is from Ireland via Sicily, go figure - no wonder I crave Italian food and can grow a beard rather quickly :) ...) As to getting Irish Citizenship, well ... when the crap hits, I want to try and fix this country. But I could do the Citizenship dance if I had to.

But, many Scots-Irish were in US way before the potato famine. Our family has obits that indicate family was here in about mid 1700's, or a little earlier. They were running all up and down the mountains from PA to Kentucky.

AOR:

The Declaration of Independence was written in the fine hand of Irish Born Charles Thompson. First read to the people in the fine brogue of John Nixon, another irish born citizen.

It was printed by John Dunlap, born in Ireland.

It bears the signatures of 7 Irishmen; Charles Carroll MD, Thomas Lynch SC, Thomas McKean DE, Robert Paine MA, George Read DE, James Smith PA, George Taylor, also of PA, and Mathew Thornton NH.

The Great Seal of the USA was designed by Charles Thompson of Co. Derry who was Secretary of The Continental Congress during it's entire existence.

The White House was designed by James Hoban who emigrated from Co. Kilkenny in 1785. He supervirsed its completion, and - you Anglo's ready for this? - following its destruction by the British in 1814, Hoban directed its reconstruction. Thereafter, The State and War Offices, begun in 1818, were designed by him, and he assisted in the design and construction of the U.S Capital. Hoban also served as a member of The Washington City Council from its incorporation in 1812 until his death in 1831.

The first armed attack against the British was the capture of arms and ammunition at Portsmouth NH, 4 months before the Battle of Lexington. The attack was led by John Sullivan (afterwards Major General), a son of Owen Sullivan of Co. Limerick. The first decicive victory for our side was won at Moore's Creek Bridge Wilmington NC on 12 Feb. 1776, when 1,500 Tories surrendered to the troops under the command of Col. (Later to become General) James Moore, a descendant of Roger O'Moore, a leader of the Irish Rebellion of 1641. The first General Officer to die was Gen. Richard Montgomery, who fell while leading the attack on Quebec Dec. 31 1775. He was born in Co. Donegal. Washintons army had 17 Irish Generals.

The First Commodore of the US Navy was John Barry, of Co. Wexford. I had the honor and privelege of being quartered in barry hall, the last 2 years of my stay at the USMMA, Kings Point.

No. Each nation has a policy.

Nope. The US does supposedly limit multi-citizenship to one country, other than the U.S. But that's irrelevant as well- they cannot strip citizenship.
