300 Illegal Workers Arrested at Wal-Marts
WASHINGTON (Oct. 23) - Federal officials arrested more than 300 illegal workers at 61 Wal-Mart stores across the country early Thursday morning and searched the Bentonville, Ark., office of one of the retail chain's corporate executives.
The workers arrested were members of cleaning crews which the company hired through a contractor. All were people in the country illegally, said a federal official on condition of anonymity.
The arrests occurred as the workers were finishing their night shift and took place at 61 stores in 21 states.
The arrests stem from a November 1998 investigation done in conjunction with the Pennsylvania attorney general's office. In that investigation, officials also targeted contractors and subcontractors used by Wal-Mart to clean stores.
Employers are required to check forms known as I-9's, filled out by every new employee, and keep the forms for a specified period of time. An employer can face civil and criminal penalties if the employer knowingly hired illegal immigrants or doesn't comply with the I-9 regulations.
The people arrested were detained at local immigration offices, the official said. If they had no previous criminal record, they were released with notices to appear before immigration judges.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is the world's largest retailer, based in Bentonville, Ark.
Arrests were made in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

Forgive me for being underwhelmed, but it only took five years for them to net 300 illegals? Granted, every little bit helps, but don't that number cross over the border in a couple of hours, all day?
If they had no previous criminal record, they were released with notices to appear before immigration judges.
And Pedro disappears right back into the woodwork, but he has to steer clear of Wal-Mart for fear of getting caught of course, so he'll go to work for Target!

Now, if they'd go after Wal-Mart with some big fines and even bigger prison sentences, I'd consider that a Christmas gift to remember!

PURE CLAPTRAP....300 hundred illegal aliens are arrested to quell all the Joe Bush supporters and other idiots disdain for illegal aliens. This story is literally running on every major news site that I have checked so far. The effect of this is minuscule. The only reason I support this plan of action is to see Vincent Fox shit a brick within the next couple of days. This clearly was ââ¬Åracismââ¬Â at its finest by the Jorgeââ¬â¢s administration.

They could arrest that many in 15 minutes in any casino in Nevada. These will be released OR to come back for a hearing. Yeah, right. This is just touchy-feely see what your govt. is doing for you BS.

I wonder. 2004 is coming up hard around the bend, and Dubya is gonna have to show white voters SOMETHING, however cosmetic. (Besides the Jewish ones, I mean.) Having Fox News/Free Republic commissars screaming at you that "anti-Semitism equals anti-Americanism" can only elicit a short-term knee-jerk before it starts to get old - and worse, transparent.
Illegal Mexicans make a perfect pinata in a crippled economy, given the reality that they're not going GOP in bloc numbers anyway. And if it comes down to finding a scapegoat in the midst of a national-economy-destroying war for Greater Israel, you will see friggin' Eskimos detained without consel before any politician asks, let alone answers, the question: WHO led us to this pass?
...the aliens in question have studiously been put forth as "eastern europeans"....
Logical, actually: Now the giv'ment can say that they're "doing something" about illegal aliens and not miff the Hispanic lobby at the same time. Merry Christmas indeed. Joe Sixpack and Susy Soccermom, placated again.

Well, then it's not Christmas, it's Hannukah
Russians say, "it's OK, some time festivities will come to our neighborhood too". How long will Americans have to wait for theirs? You know how silly it is to ask hyman for anything...
