I was wrong about 2000, so I won't make any extreme predictions. However, I do think there are some lunatic cultists that will take the pope's death as sign to commit extreme and/or violent actions.

It may also shatter the Chatholic church, because from what I hear the top two replacements are a Jew and a Negro. You would think that more traditional Catholics will brake away and some will join more tradition factions like the one the Gibsons are in. I've already overheard some end times protestants saying that the next pope will be the anti-christ in fullment of some percieved "Judeo-Christian" prophecy.

Anti-Rome Chatholic groups are growing. "AntiPope" Gregory XVII runs a rather odd Church.

I must give a hearty "bull-crap" to the suggestion to break away from Rome. I will never yield on my allegiance to Rome. Peter's successor resides there, and remember that Jesus told Peter that whatever he binds on earth is bound in heaven, and the converse is also true.

What is wrong with a Jewish convert becoming a Pope? I seem to remember Jesus proclaiming His unbounded joy at the conversion of a Jew to His teaching. As for a Negroe (a child of God as well, I could give a damn about skin color, I know as much white and brown trash as I do black, to hell with his being a "Negroe"), Cardinal Arrinze of Nigeria is far more devoted to God and conservative than a good many white Catholics. If the end times are at hand, it is with Rome and Peter's successor that I make my stand. Any Catholic who leaves Rome is no longer a Catholic, he is a schismatic.

And let me make a pre-emptive reply: No I am not blind in loyalty to Rome. I am unfaltering in loyalty to the vicar of Christ, but I gave my soul freely to the Son of the Most High God long ago. As Jesus told Peter, " You are a rock, and upon your foundation I shall build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it". Hmmm, Hell against Rome. If you are not on the side of Rome, upon whose side do you stand?
