BERNAT, ZBIGNIEW P. ââ¬Å PETEââ¬Â AGE 53 Passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2002 at his home in Sterling, VA. He was born and raised in Poland where he was an active member of the Solidarity Movement which ushered the end of Communism in Eastern Europe. He graduated from Warsaw Polytechnic University in Warsaw, Poland. In 1982 he was exiled to the United States and settled in El Paso, TX. In 1989 he moved to the Washington D.C. area where he was very active in politics and the fight for freedom. He was a beloved husband of 33 years to Zenona Bernat and loving father to Adam, Ania, and Peter. Friends are invited to attend A funeral service on Thursday May 30, 2002 at the Adams- Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon VA. The viewing will begin at 6 pm followed by a short service at approximately 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zbigniew P. Bernat Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 424, Sterling VA 20167-0424
He joined OD just a few days before his death. Many knew him as kulak at Liberty Forum or CommiesOut at "Free" Republic (where he stopped posting altogether a month ago and was fairly inactive for a long time before that). Honest, forthright, hard-working, courageous, provocative...always that wry humor...a sterling soldier in the good fight.
A sad loss for us, but God give him good rest and bless his memory. Would that all defenders of freedom were as active as he was.

My condolences to Pete and his family. I wish I had would have been able to know him better, but I got kicked off FR just as some of the threads with him got interesting, as I recall. At least he is in a place now where he will never have to worry about Rim or the Kommisars.
My prayers go to his family with all yours. RIP Pete.

One of the few critical thinkers I ever encountered on F Republik. A good and admirable man. Anyone who could stand up against the Soviets with just words and faith beside him is a man of iron.

Like the rest of you, I too, am sadden by this. Commies Out used to give the stupid and ignorant hell over at the Neo-con nursery known as "Free" Republic. I`m sorry I never got the chance to correspond with him here.

The Potemkin Village People don't like to admit it, but members do choose to leave.
Nobody belongs where they're not wanted, and believe me, there are factions who have plenty of authority as well as a blessing to go out of their way to let you know if they don't want you there.
And they're willing to lie up a storm, subterfuge, and tie logic in knots to justify their bile. Character assassination is not only allowed in some cases against other members, but encouraged...especially in cases where it is plain too difficult or impossible to provoke the focus of the Star Chamber into doing or saying anything that could conceivably get them banned.
I mean, a lot of explaining to do if someone visible or prolific or really thought-inspiring outside the mainstream gets banned without cause. That might cause a few problems.
But a fun way for the Kontrol Freaks at TOS to run dissenters off is to turn them into Thought Criminals and harass them with tactics that would make James Carville shake their hands. That way, they don't have to explain a damned thing. (And of course, you can always remove posts that inconveniently scratch the rose-colored glasses of the others if something embarrassing is brought up.)
Pete wasn't the only one to leave because he just plain got sick of that crap.

No way I would delete the account, Sert. It will stand as long as I'm standing, you can count on that.
I regret I never had the privelege of getting to know the man. My deepest condolences go out to his family. May our gracious Lord give them peace in their time of loss.
If anyone has any tribute type of links or quotes, please send them to me. I would be happy to add them to his profile signature as a small token of memorial to his memory.

Yes, indeed. Its a coin toss on who of the above made the biggest ass out of himself on that thread. Arator is particularly disappointing with his cheapshot. Its bad to see someone decline as he has over the past year.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Commies Out. He was one of the few on FR who stood up to the neo-cons.
My condolences to his family. They must be very proud to have him for an ancestor.
