UNITED NATIONS — The U.N. Security Council (search) called an emergency meeting Sunday after Syria (search) complained to Secretary-General Kofi Annan over Israel's air raid on a purported Palestinian training base near Damascus, a U.N. diplomat said.

The meeting was scheduled for 4.00 p.m. EDT, the diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity. He did not know how many of the 15 council members had confirmed their attendance.

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa (search) lodged Syria's complaint to Annan and the president of the Security Council, urging it to "immediately hold a session to discuss the Israeli aggression against Syrian territories and the measures the council ought to take to deter the Israeli government from following a provocative, aggressive policy against Syria."

Al-Sharaa urged the Security Council to "condemn, deter and prevent the repetition of this dangerous development that threatens regional and international security and stability."

The 22-member Arab League (search) is also convening an emergency session Sunday.

The Israeli raid came in retaliation for a homicide bombing carried out by the Palestinian militant Islamic Jihad against a restaurant in the Israeli coastal city of Haifa Saturday. Nineteen people and the bomber were killed.

Valley Forge: I seriously doubt that the UN will give its approval for Israel to attack Syria. There'll be the usual discussions. Behind the scenes the Bush administration will try to calm down Sharon...this from an administration who DIDN'T calm down and use diplomacy in its unnecessary war plans against Iraq.

Will Sharon strike out against Syria on his own? Probably not?

However, Sharon WILL retaliate in some way. Just more of the same.

An illegal state using our planes to attack another country, without any military provocation. Sounds like typical Jewish behavior. But it's o.k. -- Isweal is our f-f-f-fwend...

Syria: Israel attacked civilian area

Al Jazeera October 5, 2003

Syria has said Israeli forces attacked a civilian area near Damascus in a "grave escalation" of tensions in the Middle East.

Damascus is capable of deterring Israel but will practice restraint, Syria's Foreign Minister Faruq al-Shara said in a letter to the United Nations on Sunday.

The Israelis had earlier claimed that it attacked an Islamic Jihad and Hamas training base in the Ain al-Sahab area, about 20km northwest of Damascus.

It did not say whether air or ground forces carried out the strike, but an unnamed security source was quoted as saying that it was an air attack early on Sunday.

Both the Islamic Jihad and Syrian sources have denied that the area housed a training base.

electrik: I listened to the Syrian ambassador a little while ago...it was a lengthy speech.

Koffi Annan said he was disappointed and disturbed at Israel's behavior and feared a wider escalation in mid-east tensions.

I think that is putting it mildly.

Should the UN Security Council draft any sort of measure regarding Israel's latest temper tantrum, we can all be certain that the US will veto it. ZOG has that precious trump card and isn't the least bit shy or subtle about using it. The situation is reminiscent of the Greek Council in Revenge Of The Nerds, where the Alpha Betas were running the Council and could therefore shield themselves from any disciplinary action.

If Israel is ever to be disciplined by the UN for its crimes, it seems that it will be necessary for one or more of the other veto-wielding nations on the UN Security Council to threaten to veto future US resolutions outright if the US doesn't cease abusing its veto power and making a mockery out of the system. But of course it's highly unlikely that other nations will stick their necks out just to see Israel get a slap on the wrist.

Rban,

In a nutshell, the segment was about arranged marriages in India and the ripoffs in doweries. It has gotten to the point where hindu women are aborting girls in favor of boys where the government is worried about the effects it will have on the demographics. Just think, if they keep this up they may turn into a nations of queers. If 60 Minutes publishes a transcript I' ll post it and flag you.

Syria.

I watched Fox News Sunday and saw that they brought out the big zionists guns, Charles Krauthammer and Bill Kristol. Krauthammer said that he believes that Sharon doesn't know what to do here. For some reason, I don't believe him. I wouldn't put it past Sharon to try to widen the war by doing everything he can to drag us into the middle of this latest blow up, no pun intended. As far as I'm concerned, the U.S. doesn't have a dog in this fight.

BTW, Rban. The woman who blew herself up did it in retaliation for her brother being killed a few months back by the I.D.F. Just another day in the Middle East.

Smedley,

You got that right about Nixon giving those pigs everything. I was in Germany from 77-78 and even at that date, Congress still hadn't appropriated the funds to replace all the spare parts sent to our worthless "ally." No surprise, but the Jews in Congress that want us to hand every damn thing over to Israel would always vote to cut defense spending, particularly in the maintenance budget.

Oh, and by the way, Angler, Israel whenever possible exercises great restraint and tries its utmost to minimize civilian casualties in its war on terrorism. They pinpoint terrorists and subhumans with unbelievable accuracy....often endangering the lives of their own troops in the process.

LOL! Are you familiar with the running tally of how many Palestinian noncombatants have been killed versus the number of Israeli deaths?

No force in history has ever waged such a just and principled struggle as the State of Israel. That nation is a model of humanity and compassion.

You forgot to praise the Israelis for their unfailing honesty as well! LMFAO!!

Hold Syria accountable

              Posted: October 6, 2003

              © 2003 WorldNetDaily.com

For 30 years, Syria has undermined peace and
freedom in the Middle East and never been held
              accountable.

Last weekend, Israel finally held Syria accountable
for sponsoring the kind of terrorism that struck on
the Sabbath in a crowded restaurant in Haifa,
              killing 19.

No doubt many analysts, diplomats and others not
at risk of constant terrorist attack will decry
Israel's air raid on a terrorist training base deep in
Syrian territory as a dramatic escalation of the
              conflict in the Middle East.

I say it is the right thing to do.

This terrorist base, the Ein Tzahab, was used by
Islamic Jihad and Hamas. It is hosted by Syria and
paid for by Iran. Therefore, Israel would have
justification to bomb the capital of Syria and Iran
for the deadly attack in Haifa and dozens of
others like it carried about by Hamas and Islamic
Jihad. Bombing the terrorist base itself shows Israel
is still using the utmost restraint in the face of
              overwhelming provocation.

Syria has been in the terrorism business for a long
time. With its occupation forces in Lebanon, it has
turned that once-free nation into a permanent
host of parasitic forces of terrorism. We also
believe Syria is allowing guerrilla forces to move
into and out of Iraq for the express purpose of
              attacking U.S. troops.

For all these reasons, it's about time somebody hit
              Syria.

Syria will cry and moan and gnash its teeth about
this little attack by Israel. The U.S. should explain
that's just what happens when you support
terrorism against your neighbors. Sometimes you
get hit back. There should be no apologies. There
should be no talk of de-escalating the conflict.
There should be only warnings that more of this
will come following terrorist attacks by groups
              with bases in Syria.

It's time to exact a price from Syria. Damascus
cannot be permitted to stand on the sidelines and
escape retribution as its fighters are disbursed to
neighboring countries to play havoc and wreak
              death and destruction.

It's time to start squeezing Syria. It's time to
squeeze it like the Israelis did. It's time to squeeze
it by freeing Lebanon of its grip. It's time to isolate
it from trading partners. And it's time to give it a
              taste of its own medicine.

But it's time for more than symbolic gestures. The
real goal of our terror war should be to destroy the
              terrorist infrastructure throughout the Middle
              East.

That means toppling the regimes in Syria and
              Iran.

The logical next phase of this war should be to
shift attention to Syria. Damascus not only
supports terrorism, it is still at this very moment
supporting the guerrillas attempting to kill our
              troops in Iraq.

Further, Syria is the only country in the Middle
East actively occupying a neighboring country.
That little neighbor is Lebanon – one of the few
countries in the region that actually has a history
              of constitutional, republican-style government.

Why Syria and not Iran? Because Iran has
domestic problems that could lead to the fall of the
mullah regime at any moment. An invasion may
not be necessary. But Syria is a second-generation,
totalitarian police state. Uprisings are brutally
crushed, and there is no chance of a popular
rebellion. Thus, it will take outside force – the kind
we are now employing in Iraq – to take down
              Damascus.

Although left out of Bush's "axis-of-evil"
illustration of countries harboring or sponsoring
terrorists, Syria has gained increased scrutiny
amid suspicions it allowed Saddam Hussein to
transfer weapons of mass destruction across its
border, allegations it supplied Iraq with illegal
arms which are currently being used against
coalition forces, and charges it and Iran have
dispatched thousands of terrorists and suicide
bombers into Iraq for attacks against coalition
              forces.

Is it crazy to talk about extending the war in the
Middle East? Recent history has shown us it may
be crazy not to do so. Our troops are there now.
We have made a huge commitment to one regime
change. It won't be easy to do this again a year
from now or 10 years from now.

There is no chance Syria will change its stripes
without force. There is no chance Lebanon will be
free without a regime change in Damascus. There
is no chance we will wipe out the world's biggest
terrorist base – in Lebanon – without targeting
              Syria.

Israel has apparently caught on. Maybe it's time
for the U.S. to see the truth, too.

Yes, Israel is our friend...it acts as a nuclear presence in the region. And that, essentially, is it. However, Israel is becoming more "American" in how it handles its enemies...if GW Bush can attack a sovereign nation based on supposition that said nation MIGHT have WMDs then why not Israel?

Russia has also said it will use the 'pre-eminent' clause to justify any strikes it may consider employing.

Such is the state of the world according to GW Bush and his National Security Strategy Doctrine.

So, then - if Syria takes note of that 'pre-eminent' clause it, too can strike - again, again, and again. And so can Israel.

Dare Bush chastise Sharon? I don't think so...we have unleashed a monster.

arjurg,

The US has its own nuclear presence in the region. ICBMs go a long way.

Why on earth would the US want a nuclear presence not under its control, and developed outside of non-proliferation agreements and an inspections regime, which as the pre-eminent power it's the chief custodian of ?

Woo hoo! Israel, the epitome of a loose cannon state, on the brink of triggering World War IV!(since, according to Jew historians, the Cold War was WW3)

We just need North Korea to ally up with the Middle East, so we can truly have an "Axis of Evil" and a crisis on our hands. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and the turbulent rapids of righteousness are just waiting to break through the dam of Zionism. Someone is going to press the button, then finally the wheels of history can turn.

Jew-insanity at its best. Attack everyone. Forget diplomacy. Strike, strike. Once the 600 pound gorilla of the United States shrinks to a 300, or 400 lb gorilla (and itz happening), neither of us are going to last much longer in the international arena. Unfortunately, one of the most important decisions in the history of the United States will probably end up in the hands of the ingenius Dubya.
And I can tell you that most people here are talking out of sheer ignorance. They speak of Israelis killing Palestinian women and children...well, as a Hindu, I am telling you : that's the only way to treat Muslims, the only thing that works. There IS no such thing as an innocent Muslim...even their women and children are suicide bombers, so why should Israel go out of its way to spare anyone of them?

I never feel sorry for Muslims, even if the victim is a 2 month old baby. That 2 month old baby 20 years from now will become a savage terrorist flying a goddamn plane into our buildings!!! These bleeding heart liberals on this forum crying crocodile tears over Palestinian casualties...
When a 2-month-old Muslim baby grows up to be a 20-year-old terrorist, it's almost always for very clear reasons. Namely, JewSA-imposed sanctions, JewSA-led wars, and Israeli atrocities funded by our tax dollars are the real causes of terrorism.

If you lived in Palestine and regularly saw YOUR friends and loved ones harassed, humiliated, beaten, tortured, or killed by smirking Israeli soldiers -- and you knew that such treatment was made possibly by the JewSA -- then wouldn't YOU want to get a little payback? Think about it.

I like to see the underdog get a few hits in, and that's what the Palestinians are doing. A single Palestinian boy throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers has more courage than the entire Israeli military combined. The Palestinians are an inspiration to all true freedom-lovers who refuse to live under the heels of the Jewish Supremacists.
