Ex-doc guilty in Mex sex jaunt
An ex-doctor from Brooklyn was convicted yesterday of traveling to Mexico to have sex with boys at a resort that catered to pedophiles. After three hours of deliberations, the Manhattan Federal Court jury found Stefan Irving, 56, of Sunset Park guilty on five criminal counts, including traveling internationally to have sex with minors and possessing child pornography.
Irving, who has been behind bars without bail since his arrest in May, is scheduled to be sentenced in January. He faces life in prison.
He was previously arrested in 1982 on child sex abuse charges when he was chief physician of upstate Middletown's school district.
Irving pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault and spent 3-1/2 years in prison. Prosecutors said Irving traveled to Acapulco in May 1998, bringing with him candy and action figures as gifts for the boys at the oceanside bed and breakfast.
The boys at Castillo Vista del Mar were recruited off the streets and were given food, shelter and money in exchange for having sex with American pedophiles, prosecutors said.
