S.C. Nixes Honor for Confederates

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The eight crewmen of the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley will not lie in state at the South Carolina Statehouse, a lawmaker said.
Reports that the crew would be brought to the Statehouse drew criticism from business and civil rights leaders who said it would be disrespectful to have Confederates honored in the building.
"Personally, I would have liked to have done it, but it's not in the cards," said state Sen. Glenn McConnell, the chairman of the Hunley Commission.
The burial is to be held April 17 at a cemetery in Charleston. Before the burial, the crew will lie in state for two days on board the USS Yorktown at a museum in Mount Pleasant.
The Hunley became the first submarine in history to sink an enemy warship when it took down the Union blockade ship Housatonic off Charleston on Feb. 17, 1864. The Hunley itself sank before returning to shore.
The submarine was raised and the sailors' remains were recovered three years ago.

No surprise here. The "business community" is made up of some of the greedeist and most gutless people in the country. They really are quite contemptable, IMHO.
It wasn't so much the "civil rights" whores who got the flag changed here in Georgia. It was our worthless Chamber of Commerce.
It is because of things like this that I have a hard time being sympathetic to their problems with idiot "liberals".

Slavery & the Confederacy have sort of passed through the locus of the 20th century's one abiding religious belief-system, Holocaust Theology. Everybody's got to be top dog in the tale-of-woe business; the rest of us are prompted to applaud at whoever stages the most histrionic display of childish sobbing and tantrum-throwing over their suffering, even if most of his suffering has to be acquired through psychic channeling. So many 35-year-old blacks with glittering diamond-stud earrings howling about massa's whip; so many 50-year-old Holocaust survivors born in Bethpage, Long Island. And the only shame they feel is that they haven't been shameless enough. So shameless, in fact, that they openly resent the other guy's tale of woe the way two hookers might fight over a street corner.
This would all be comical if not for the compulsory component of Holocaust theology that demands that the State be a full partner in enacting legislation to ensure full attendance at The Church Of The World Owes Me A Daily Apology. This comes in handy when trivializing the hard luck & suffering of others: there will never be a memorial to the victims of Jewish Bolshevism or black criminality - hey, where's your museums, punk? Which month is White Victims History Month again? I forget. You practically need zoning permits these days to commemorate a tragedy.
There's one good thing that comes out of this bushwah, though, and that's - though it may appear to happen slowly, by infintesimal degrees - people begin to distrust, and finally to laugh at, human tragedy that comes with prefabricated logos and slogans courtesy of government authorities. When the State comes knocking at your door, demanding that you put on a long face and cry on cue for certain groups (but not others) they don't dare offend, whatever profundity they're hard-selling you becomes contemptible and ridiculous before very long. Witness the schoolkids who hoot and laugh openly at their forced screenings of SCHINDLER'S LIST.....or the kind of cynical banter you hear from friends and coworkers come every Martin Luther King Day.
College kids - so full of themselves and their Search For Deeper Meaning - might buy this malarkey, but they'll be out of school shortly and interacting with real Jews and blacks soon enough. More importantly, they'll be growing older and faced with their own, very real, tragedies....and they'll notice nobody shutting the schools or opening museums for them. (This is why full partnership with government is so key to Holocaust theology - nothing like the threat of steep fines or imprisonment to keep you from laughing out loud at the umpteenth pious commemoration of the Dred Scott case or Kristollnacht. It's also why nobody bothers to vote, opting instead to simply opt out.) Interestingly, the most devoted acolytes to the Holocaust Churches tend to be upper-middle-class suburbanites with little or no interaction with the actual icons of their pity. It's why blacks are less holy than Jews here in America- there's only 5 million or so Jews in the US, but every city in every state has a part of town you don't dare blow a tire in while driving thru. Yet in Europe, where they're sick of Jews but blacks are rare, nigras are right up there with Jeezus Himself.
But make no mistake, laughter is indeed the best medicine in this case. Until we can get enough rope, the best way to let em know you're on to em is to make sure they hear the giggling through the walls as soon as they've left the room.
