Not only do the Jews speak the dominant language of whatever empire they're citizens of, but also have a strange linguistic time-lag. They tend to speak the tongue of their
last
gentile hosts - Spanish-speaking Sephardim in the Arab world, Yiddish-speakers in the Russian Empire, who then became Russian-speakers in the US and UK. I dunno why they have this linguistic time-lag, but it's there.
