I don't really know what to say about a critic who considers masterpieces like Blade Runner, Straw Dogs, The Searchers, and Mean Streets to belong on the same list as Mrs. Doubtfire and Kill Bill.

That's sort of like asking people who was more overlooked in their lifetime Beethoven or the Insane Clown Posse.

Ten good ones:

Once upon a time in America
The Shining
Badlands
Blade Runner
Cool Hand Luke
The Day of the Jackal
Groundhog Day
Miller's Crossing
Straw Dogs
Full Metal Jacket

lol at including "Three Kings" on the list.

Trajan
Wait, he included Mrs. Doubtfire ? Wasn't that just an extremely long and unnecessary Aerosmith music video?

Some of these films with reputations preceding them I've been meaning to check out... others I don't remember enough particulars to comment on their place in this list.

Some that I don't think have been commented enough on in here:

Underrated

Paths of Glory+ I think this is Kubrick's first film; the basic structure with its military tribunal setting I believe has been simply co-opted and modified to create half a dozen future Hollywood hits: (A Few Good Men, Hart's War, etc) . But all of these are dumbed-down and devolve into jewified "crime films" and other genre clones compared to POG.
Heat+ Best heist movie you'll ever seen, which I understand has been since remade by Ben Assleck as The Town
The Leopard+ Beautiful film chronicling the fading aristocracy in 19th century Sicily as democratic forces filter into the country during the Italian unification wars.
Rear Window+ This film, which is shot entirely through the viewpoint of an urban apartment window, I feel for whatever reason doesn't get as much recognition as some of Hitchcock's others... but it's excellent. Grace Kelly is a fine piece of ass too.
Seven +
The Day of the Jackal+ I think this original was re-made into some second-tier "action movie" recently.
Miller's Crossing+ One of my all-time favorite Coen Bros film, though strangely some people don't even rank it as one of their top 5.

Overrated

Spartacus- A decent flick, but it's the only "Kubrick movie" I've seen so far which I don't think is a first-rate film. Spartacus turns into an American high school boy midway through the film as the audience is subjected to repeated detours into Spartacus' cookie cutter romance with his slave-queen which only slows the pace of the film. I've heard that Kubrick's vision of this film conflicted with the studios' (and was one of the reasons for his relocation to England) and it shows as it was glitzed-up, dumbed-down, and drawn out by Hollywitz agents.
Kill Bill- Some people think this is the best Tarantino film, but it's not even as good as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, or Inglorious Bastards which are the only 3 other Tarantino film's I've ever seen.
Once Upon a Time in America - Nobody really cares about the criminal and interracial romantic intrigues of ghettoized yids, this is not a top film.
Minority Report- Seriously
Close Encounters of the Third Kind- Why does all of Spielsteinberg's stuff involve aliens or dinosaurs or Nazis chasing aliens? He's such a goofy yid he can't make a movie revolving around normal human beings because he doesn't understand anything about them. His best film so far was probably the made-for-TV "Duel", and that took place almost entirely on the highway and didn't involve ordinary dialogue anyway. Now he has some TV series about a war on terror against dinosaurs or something on FOX called "Terra Nova". Close Encounters is a decent film but it's not one of the best.
American Gangster- Decent film, but don't kid yourself... I don't like how it lionizes Frank Lucas as ghetto nobility, when he was basically a small-minded sleaze who grew too big for his britches and ultimately snitched his way out of prison time. Denzel Washington basically reprises his exact role as the tough-but-fair football coach from Remember The Titans and turns him into a heroin dealer, which is sort of ridiculous. It would have been more authentic if Lucas was niggerized better.
A History of Violence- Never really accomplishes whatever grand sweeping vision it had in mind. The beta weakling Viggo Mortensen is again shoehorned into the role of an alpha male and again it falls flat. Ed Harris is good here, but Viggo is best as a supporting weasel character, like Steve Buscemi.

Trajan
It's probably for the best that Spielberg sticks to shlock subjects, because when he doesn't he veers into emetic sentimentality -- remember the ending of A.I .? Of course this sentimentality finds its way into most of his films, but at least with the sillier action movies you can ignore the characters and focus on the effects. When the focus is on 'normal human beings', the results are painful.

I will write more on this later, but for now I will say that Heat is an excellent movie. Reminds me of this year's Drive in many ways. Here is my review:

Also, Tarantino is hack. He learned cinematography from watching rare 1970s B movies he found at the video store he worked in. Never bothered with plot or character development. What's in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction ? The lost Kurt Cobain suicide note.

Team Zissou
FAIL! You're thinking of Pulp Fiction.
